Liverpool Star Virgil van Dijk Signs Contract Extension Deal
Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk pledged his long-term future to the club by putting pen to paper on formal terms, committing himself to Anfield for at least the duration of the 2024-25 campaign. The Dutch centre-half, who moved to the Reds in January 2018 to fill the central spot in the Reds’ victories, was unable to hide his pride and happiness at pledging himself to the Reds.
Van Dijk’s signing is a tremendous asset to Liverpool, in the signing of one of the best defenders in the world in the long term. Discussing his new contract, Virgil Van Dijk himself stated, “It was always Liverpool. That was the situation. It was always in my mind, it was always the plan, and it was always Liverpool.” He further reiterated his strong affinity to the club and fans, saying that he had just been called an “adopted Scouser” and wears the badge of pride.
Since his transfer to Liverpool from Southampton, Virgil Van Dijk has solidified himself as one of the greatest defenders in the world. His defensive abilities and leadership have been the pillars of Liverpool’s success, as he has received individual accolades like the PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 2019 and has been picked several times in the Premier League Team of the Year.
