West Coast Eagles’ Dom Sheed Suffers Devastating ACL Injury

West Coast Eagles’ premiership hero Dom Sheed has received a devastating blow to his AFL career after suffering a ruptured right knee ACL in training on Monday. The club confirmed the news on Tuesday, saying Sheed would be out for an extended period of time.
He played 165 games since 2014 debut, but perhaps most vividly he would be remembered for match-winning goal at a tight angle in 2018 AFL Grand Final against Collingwood. But it is in recent seasons that Dom Sheed has found going difficult because of debilitating foot injuries and erratic form.
West Coast football manager Gavin Bell commented that it is “very disappointing news for Dom after a woeful period with injuries over the past few seasons, and I know our players, staff, and entire club will offer him their full support during his rehabilitation”. The club will provide any further updates from Sheed and the medical experts, considering what’s next.
His contract ends at the end of 2025, so it remains to be seen if West Coast or any rival club will throw a lifeline his way for 2026 and beyond. Injury leaves Sheed’s AFL future in air, and all are hoping he gets through ok.
Star Fremantle recruit Shai Bolton will probably be ruled out for the AFL Indigenous All Stars game with a calf injury. The contest between the Dockers and the All Stars is weakening as Hayden Young is also out because of a low-grade hamstring injury.
The West Coast Eagles, along with its fans, stands behind Dom Sheed, who received full support throughout his rehabilitation process. Sheed’s strength of character and grit will be tried as he tackles the long and arduous road to recovery.
